Dr. Seth J. Gillihan, PhD
With a practice in Haverford, Pennsylvania, Seth J. Gillihan is a licensed psychologist who specializes in working with those afflicted with anxiety, depression, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and other related conditions. At the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Gillihan is a clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology in their Department of Psychiatry.
In his earlier years, Dr. Gillihan graduated with his BA from Indiana University in Bloomington where he majored in Biology and French. He went on to study Community Counseling and achieved his MA from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. His received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
While at The George Washington University, Gillihan began his clinical training in their community counseling program. It was here he began working with individuals as part of a partially hospitalized program who were affected with addiction and other major mental illnesses.
He went on to complete an internship at the Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey and his supervised training and evidence-based treatments for anxiety and depression while he was at the University of Pennsylvania. Here his focus was on the assessment and development of treatment plans for patients with mental illnesses and drug addiction.
Before Dr. Gillihan opened his practice in Haverford, PA, he was an Assistant Professor at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania’s Psychiatry Department. His research at the University included smoking cessation and anxiety conditions, mostly on post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients and their treatment. He also supervised psychological trainees and psychiatry residents in their delivery of cognitive-behavior therapy for OCD, depression, PTSD and other mental conditions.
